Anime In The 70'sDuring the 1970's, Anime began to change and grow as animators' Mushi and Toei continued to pave the way for Japanese animation. Anime developed further, separating itself from its previously-influential Western roots. The groundwork was now laid for the animation field in Japan and certain series in the 1970's highlighted things that were to become the foundation of the "uniqueness" of the Anime medium. Anime began developing unique genres such as mecha (mechanical). This term was used to describe the giant robots and mechines used in Anime shows. Some early works of mecha included Mazinger Z, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, Space Battleship Yamato, and Mobile Suit Gundam. Unlike the Disney-like stories, these Anime showed a progression in the science fiction genre in Anime. Shows shifted from more superhero-oriented, fantastical plots to more realistic space operas with increasingly complex plots and fuzzier definitions of right and wrong. |
